About This Project

I have been working on this project for the past few years as a consultant for Wilson Technologies. The site basically serves as an extranet that their members can log in to and interact with.

Their original site was built on the Mambo CMS, which has since been discontinued. Mambo was the predecessor to Joomla. The site was a bit of a mess. It used invalid code, a tables-based layout, and was difficult for the IAASE members to use and update. Additionally, the member database was corrupt and needed a lot of work. Much of this difficulty was due to the Mambo system itself.

I rebuilt the site on a heavily modified version of Wordpress. The site is now standards-compliant and accessible. The code is clean and the site is much more cross-browser compatible.

Since rebuilding the site, I have added a Region Map feature that was built with the Google Maps API. It allows IAASE members with the proper access level to edit region pages with information regarding upcoming meetings, annoucements, etc. The end-user interface is a map of Illinois that they click to drill down into their region and county to view information.

I also have created a database-driven Job Ad feature that allows IAASE members to post job ads on the site. Once a job ad is created, it goes through an approval process that includes email notifications.

This project has involved a lot of database and PHP work, and is probably the largest and most complicated project I have been involved with to date.
